Our Journey

‘Billabourie North’ is a working cattle farm reimagined as a design-driven retreat. pc3orange is the third project in the Permanent Camping series by Casey Brown Architecture—an exploration of minimal structures made remarkable. For pc3orange, Rob Brown looked to the sweep of open paddocks and the curve of a pipi shell, shaping a cocoon of soaring space and considered luxury.

Engineering a Sculptural Shelter

Craft and Construction

AutoCad design, laser cutting and bespoke fabrication had the core arrived by shipping container, it was then bolted,  welded and lifted into place with Meccano-like precision. The day each of the two-tonne roof “fly”s were lifted into place was incredibly exciting to see it take shape. Local builder John Brown of JWB Building carried the vision through to completion, lining the retreat in ironbark timber recycled from old power poles and finishing every junction with care.

Purposeful. Storied.

This design is meant to live with you. In the middle of your day, we want you to remember pc3orange, to smile, to relax, to recall the sense of reconnection and rejuvenation, and to be excited that you can return again.

Every detail has a story. The steps are sliced granite boulders, inspired by the shape of a potato cut in our kitchen. The benches are locally curved steel finished in volcanic orange duco. Recycled timber lining glows with renewed life. Resolving each of these details was a joy, drawn from the extraordinary vision of Rob Brown and Dan Weber of Casey Brown Architecture.

Even the practical elements are works of art. The off-grid service box is a sculptural piece in its own right. Inside, carefully considered details abound: the stone hearth embedded in the timber floor, skylights that frame the gums and stars, the custom benches, the iconic Fujiei chairs, and the welcoming firepit.
