The region, characterised by its tapestry of vineyards, orchards and walking trails around Mount Canobolas (Gaanha Bula), hosts Australia’s longest running Food and Wine Festival. Orange F.O.O.D Week is complemented by the Orange Wine Festival and its Winter Fire Festival.
Orange allows you to be as active or relaxed as you feel.
Recently named NSW’s top wine region, there is a range of Cellar Doors, along with distilleries, breweries and Farmers’ Markets. You can match this with walks in the Botanic Gardens, Mount Canobolas or the region’s extensive galleries and historic villages.
For those with a more active retreat in mind, Orange offers challenging Mount Bike tracks, and village trails, along with water pursuits on Lake Canobolas.
WALKING TRAILS
Discover the walking trails that reveal the soul of Orange. Meander through the Orange Heritage Trail, where historic homes and stories line the path from the Visitor Centre. Wander into the wild via the Federal Falls track, a 4km loop in the Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area that leads to a plunging waterfall. Explore the Borenore Karst Reserve trail, where limestone caves and native bushland await just outside town. WINERY EXPERIENCES
Orange is one of Australia’s premium cool climate regions. Sitting at an elevation of between 600 and 1100m, the region is gaining an enviable reputation for its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sparkling Wines. For an immersive experience, where the winemakers and owners will most likely be pouring the wine, visit Ross Hill, Printhie, ChaLou, Byrne Farm, Swinging Bridge or Angullong or any pick from the diverse offerings. Bookings are recommended, however most will be happy if you walk in.
LOCAL DINING
Orange offers a diverse range of special dining experiences. The region is a hub of regional produce which is heroed in most of the local restaurants and cafes. For the best coffee in the region visit Bills Beans, Byng Street Store or Good Eddy.
